This chapter explores the interdisciplinary nature of empirical research on foreign/second language learning. In doing so, it reviews four recent interdisciplinary PhD theses. It mainly argues that interdisciplinary cooperation changes the systematicity of disciplines as such and, thus, may lead to the development of hybrid disciplines.
