Abstract

This chapter discusses the nature of the interdisciplinary discipline ‘Fremdsprachendidaktik’. It addresses questions of definition, self- understanding and pluralism of language education as a field of academic inquiry. The author argues that due to its inherent transdisciplinarity, its multifaceted approaches, and the complexity of its subject matter, ‘Fremdsprachendidaktik’ can be considered a ‘disobedient’ discipline.
