In this text I analyze the ways in which El Tiempo, one of the most influential newspapers in Colombia, reported and represented the cases of rape of women and girls committed by members of the US military forces in the first decade of the 21st century. This analysis is framed in the historical and political context of Colombia, emphasizing on the implementation and consequences of Plan Colombia. At the same time, it problematizes the alliances between the media and the political elites in the country in the frame of what Chomsky and Herman (1988) have called "Manufacturing consent".
