| dc.description.abstract | Durch die wissenschaftlich-technische Entwicklung ist dem Menschen eine Macht zugewachsen, deren soziale Folgen und ethische Dimension eine wichtige Rolle in der Science-Fiction-Literatur spielen. Die großen Chancen und Risiken, nicht nur für den Einzelnen, sondern für die gesamte Menschheit, wird besonders prägnant in dem Motiv des künstlichen Menschen widergespiegelt. Das Ziel, den “Neuen Menschen” zu schaffen, findet sich in den führenden geistigen und politischen Bewegungen der Weltgeschichte - in der Science Fiction bietet sich aber (fiktional) die Möglichkeit, den Menschen nicht nur von außen, durch das soziale Umfeld zu formen, sondern durch die artifizielle Konstruktion neu zu erschaffen. Häufig geschieht dies einerseits in Zusammenhang mit utopischen Ideen und andererseits vor dem Hintergrund der Evolutionstheorie, die die künstliche Veränderung des Menschen als Notwendigkeit erscheinen lässt, um die Menschheit an die sich immer schneller verändernde Umwelt anzupassen und damit ihr Überleben zu sichern. Dieser Beitrag widmet sich einigen repräsentativen Werken des 20. Jahrhunderts, die den künstlichen Menschen und damit verbundene bioethische Fragen in den Mittelpunkt stellen und die Ambivalenz der Vision vom Neuen Menschen zwischen Traum und Alptraum aufzeigen. | |
| dc.description.abstract | The rapid scientific and technological development has given humans an unprecedented power over nature and science fiction literature has reflected on the social and ethical consequences of this power since its very beginning. The motif of the artificial human provides an insightful focal point for the great chances and risks for the individual and the whole of humanity that come with the new powers of creation and change. The idea of creating the “new human being” can be found in the leading spiritual and political movements in history, and while they have been largely based on a changed natural man, science fiction envisions the (fictional) advent of a new kind of human being in a very material sense by artificial creation, which allows profound thought experiments on the nature and possible future of the human race. The motif of the artificial human is often linked with (anti-)utopian and evolutionary concepts that raise the question in how far humans have to transform themselves in order to adapt to an increasingly changing and artificial environment and to ensure their survival and well-being. This paper discusses some representative works of the 20th century that reflect on artificial humans and the associated bioethical issues and reveal the ambivalence of the “new human being” between dream and nightmare. | |
